Please check all speaker and HDMI connections to ensure they are secure and not causing any short circuits. Please make sure the receiver is well-ventilated and not overheating. Overheating can cause the receiver to shut off to protect itself. If the issue persists, you may want to reset the receiver to factory default settings. This can often resolve persistent issues. Hi JCFD, thanks for choosing and purchasing our product. We understand your concern regarding the temperature of your Sony unit. Although the receiver heats up during operation, this is not a malfunction. If you continuously use this receiver at a large volume, the cabinet temperature of the top, side and bottom rises considerably. To avoid burning yourself, do not touch the cabinet.

-Place the receiver in a location with adequate ventilation to prevent heat buildup and prolong the life of the receiver.
-Do not place the receiver near heat sources, or in a place subject to direct sunlight, excessive dust, or mechanical shock.
-• Do not place anything on top of the cabinet that might block the ventilation holes and cause malfunctions.

To set the speaker pattern using the TV screen, follow the below steps:

-Select [Easy Setup] from the home menu.
-Select [Assign Surround Back Terminals], and then select [Height Speakers] on the next screen.
-Set [Speaker Pattern] to [x.x.2ch] (i.e. [5.1.2ch], [4.1.2ch], etc.).
-Set [Front High/Top/Dolby Speakers] to [Top Middle Speakers] or [Front Dolby Speakers].
-Complete Auto Calibration by following the on-screen instructions.

Allow us to help make this a better experience. As part of normal operation, the receiver is designed to display the settings and home menu when connected to the TV via HDMI. The home menu of the connected soundbar or A/V receiver displays on the TV when the you are switching to view content from other connected devices and:

The HDMI devices are connected to the soundbar or receiver.
The soundbar or receiver is connected to the TV using an HDMI cable to the HDMI eARC/ARC port.
