I purchased this lens about a month ago and, unfortunately, I’ve been disappointed with the image quality. It just doesn’t deliver the level of performance I was hoping for, especially in low-light situations. In hindsight, I wish I had invested a bit more and gone with the FE 70-200mm F4 Macro G OSS II instead. That said, everything else about the lens is exactly as advertised, and if ultimate image quality isn’t your top priority, it can still serve as a decent “all-in-one” option. Definitely a lesson learned for me!

Viele Jahre habe ich das Modell SEL18200 ohne Power-Zoom besessen, verkauft und mir später die Variante mit Motor-Zoom zugelegt, das SELP18200. Für relativ verwacklungsfreies, kontinuierliches Zoomen während des Filmens ist die Optik für mich einfach ideal. Die niedrigste von drei Zoomstufen ist hierbei quasi geräuschlos, in höheren Geschwindigkeitsstufen könnte man bei extrem leiser Umgebung Zoomgeräusche wahrnehmen. In der Vergangenheit habe ich auch die E-Mount-Mitbewerber in diesem Zoombereich getestet und mittlerweile habe ich wieder zum SELP18200 zurückgefunden und bin sehr zufrieden. Es ist nicht nur das solide Metallgehäuse, das sicher in der Hand liegt, sondern auch die respektable Schärfe und der gute Kontrastbereich in jedem Brennweitenbereich, was das Objektiv auszeichnet. Selbst die Resultate im kritischen 200-mm-Bereich lassen Zufriedenheit aufkommen. Ich selbst habe nie die Streulichtblende benutzt und hatte trotzdem kaum mit Flares (Blendenflecken) oder spürbaren Kontrastverlusten zu kämpfen. Meines Erachtens könnten nur bestimmte Objektive mit spezialvergüteten Linsen dieser Optik das Wasser reichen, was ich bislang nur bei einigen wenigen Vintage-Linsen erlebt habe. Auch die chromatischen Aberrationen halten sich hervorragend in Grenzen. Außerdem ist das Objektiv infrarottauglich, ein weiterer Pluspunkt, das beileibe nicht jedes Teleobjektiv auszeichnet. Das SELP18200 ist ein beinahe Alleskönner: Ideal fürs Filmen und für Fotos, wenn man die Kamera mit nur einer Optik bestücken und keinen Objektivwechsel vornehmen möchte.

The is is by far my favorite Sony lens. It is a great all around since it covers r the full frame equivalent of a 27-300mm, and if you use clear image zoom you can extend the range to 600mm, meaning you can do everything form landscape, architecture, portraits to sports and wildlife. This is one of two Sony lens for the nex and Alpha line to have active image stabilization while recording video, the active image stabilization is way better that OSS, so much better that you can hand hold your camera at 200mm and still get smooth video. I use this lens all the time for video since it makes most of my shots look like a did them with a tripod, including handheld pans and tilts. If could only buy a lens it will be this one. It has its draw backs, is slow If you are using to in a low light scenario, but must of the newer cameras you can set your ISO to higher number without getting a lot of noise on you image, a small price to pay for the convenience, and a trade I am willing to make.

If you don't know what lens to buy with your Sony camera, this one is my first choice. It's heavy and bulky, but you get a lot in one body. The picture quality is ok for photo and very good for video. Electric zoom helps a lot, and switching to manual still makes it great for video.

Leider lässt die Kompatibilität zu meiner Kamera a 6300 zu wünschen übrig (die Angaben dazu habe ich leider zu spät im Internet entdeckt) und es ist nach Auskunft von SONY auch keine Aussicht auf eine Softwareänderung.

Belle construction, un peu lourd pour un A6000, pare-soleil encombrant, autofocus rapide mais gagnerait à pouvoir être calibrer (peut-être dans une prochaine mise à jour des logiciels, Mr Sony ?), belles définition des photos, corrections automatiques (distorsion, vignettage & Ab. Chrom.) incorporées dans le boitier A6000 efficaces, vitesse zoom électrique OK pour vidéo, trop lent pour photos, bague manuelle AF un peu trop "molle" rendant l'ajustement délicat

I got this lens included with my VG30 and I must say I really enjoy it. The focus and zoom rotate very smoothly. The only thing that bothers me is the bump at the bottom of the lens. It makes it alittle uncomfortable to handle, but overall a great lens.

The only lens you need for nex 7 to make excellent still and video camera This lens takes sharp and contrast pictures as well as professionally looking video due to image stabilization and smooth power zoom (you will only need to buy an external microphone the build in captures too much wind and other noises) I also own nikon d 800 combined with nikon lens 28-300 and the pictures from nex 7 with 18-200 are sharper with better dynamic range and color. You get all that in very portable package that covers large range of photo opportunities in single twist of the ring. It's true you can get better sharpness color and dynamic range from zeiss 24/1.8 but you will miss a lot of photos where you simply cannot get close or you traveling and do not have enough time to find the best place to take the picture. The lens is to use primarily outside on sunny day. Indoor I would use my 50mm/ 1.8 due it's large aperture that allows for much lower Iso The biggest negative is the power zoom motor combined with large diameter of the lens becomes difficult to hold by the lens.
