The LHP-1 lens hood is tailored to the RX1 with a bayonet mount that slips between the inner and outer barrels of the lens. It is machined into a rigid design that harkens to the old Voigtlander hood. The LHP-1 is best for preventing flares from incident light and fulfills this stated function. The rear vents of the hood allow illumination from the camera's built-in flash to function beyond 3 meters; however, within 2 meters, if the hood is attached, it will leave a shadow in the corner of built-in flash pictures. The closer the flash shot is, e.g., macro, the bigger the shadow will appear. Therefore, before taking flash pictures up close, either remove the LHP-1 or attach an external flash unit that sits high above the lens hood. For example, the Sony macro twin flash can be adjusted to illuminate a closeup subject without interference from the lens hood. In addition, as a result of the "sunken" bayonet mount, the hood cannot be flipped over to attach in reverse when the LHP-1 is not being used. It does not fit in the RX1's leather case, therefore, expect to pocket the hood during transport. The LHP-1 is a precisely machined hood with a custom fit to the RX1 that easily attaches and detaches. This lens hood is recommended for landscape photography and it is essential for panoramas.
