looks like there was a problem with XP and draining the battery with duo core pc's. so microsoft have created a fix.

I had the same problem with the letter D.
they said it could have been when you washed your hands that some cleaning agent was still on it and rubbed off the letter.

they sent me the key and just fitted it in easily. if it happens with other keys...then off it goes again, with a free trip to Belgium.
(i was a hard drive clicking victim)

hey mike,

i also noticed that my vaio lasts only 1hr 30 mins and that's on low settings, such as brightness low and bluetooth off. only thing on is wireless.

only way i know of disabling the 2nd cpu is if you press ctrl+alt+del and go to task manager you can right click each process and select set affinity and tick off the 2nd processor.

there probably is an easier way.

as to your battery, it might be best to take it out of you laptop when not in use. that will extend the life of the battery.

Well by the sound of mine, which was similar to Carelinos. It was clicking every 15 secs or so.
I think on that amount of reccurences that the HD arm sounds like it could be doing damage. (sounds like it's being reset all the time, like a scratched CD player trying to find the track).

It was definitely annoying, and perhaps serious as the HD manufacturer have acknowledged the problem, as well as Sony, and a board member said that they are retracting the product.

No clicks, just usual hard disk activity.

But come to think of it, this testing could take longer since when i first got my vaio it took 1 month for the sounds to show up.

except they did forget to replace my letter 'D' key as it is fading off. But they said they'll send that in the post to me.

yeah they formatted the whole drive which sucks. Just managed to put everything back on now. lucky i have a 2nd computer to back up stuff on.

no clicking sounds so far. but still too early.
remembered once the clicking went for 3 days then came back.

so will be updating....

Cool, well not to worry. Sony seem to be quite quick. Took 7 days. Pretty impressed with the speed and communication.
But let's wait for the results...

Mine seems to be on the courier right now :D
Should be getting it in a few hours. So, we'll see how it's looking soon.

Got a call from the engineer just now.
They said they're replacing the parts of the HD, just like Carelino previously stated.

Here they actually replaced the whole Hard Drive.

I'm also sending mine in soon FE11S.
The Analyst on the phone (UK) said he hasn't heard of the problem, and he also stated that if they don't find the clicking noise, they'll charge me £107.

Seriously, what is up with that? I told him to look at the message board. There are about 50 people AT LEAST reporting the problem on your own website and he still repeated the statement above.

Used to like Sony, but its fading away now...

on a separate note, for some reason my keyboard letters are fading off! I've only had this machine for 1 month now and treated it with care. What's going on!

I think this is crazy. Don't Sony test their products??
