Thanks for the update Lee.

Fingers crossed this is the fix that actually works.

However, I'm still interested to see how Sony apologise to its 'valued' customers for all the wasted hours spent on trying different settings and connections through no fault of their own, and also the time spent on here looking for good news and mailing posts, as if I didn't have better things to do! Not to mention the anger and frustration caused by the thing going AWOL almost two months ago, lets not forget that either.

So I await this next fix with bated breath.............

Unfortunately Hedgehog I said the same thing way back on page 3!

I get the impression that unless somebody like 'Watchdog' or 'What Hi-fi ' takes this up we're pretty much left to stew.

We all know it doesn't work, we all know it happened at the same time and we all know the 'support' is almost non-existant. But where do we go from here?.....

I'm (almost) using the NAS-S55HDE. I'll give it another go in the morning but not expecting too much. Just waiting....And waiting for Sony to sort out this major problem for their 'valued' customers.

Am I missing something here....?

I don't claim to be the most technically minded on here, there are obviously people here with far more knowledge than myself but this is my latest wind-up.

Now, before all this started I always used to get the message 'connected to network. No connection to internet' when checking connections. However, I was always able to access the song details which appeared when playing CD's or importing CD's or MP3's. I'm guessing this was gracenote?

In an earlier post I said I hadn't connected the wireless station to my internet router since the problems started 'cos I couldn't see the point, or even trying the 'fix' which quite plainly doesn't work, However, today, after buying 65 quids worth of the new Thin lIzzy boxset I wanted to copy them to the hard drive. Firstly the unit wouldn't recognise any details of six brand new CD's. Shouldn't this best-part-of a-grand machine at least be able to read the details and display them irrespective of whether you're connected to the net or not?

So I did the 'fix'. I followed the pdf to the letter, connected to my network, got the same message as usual, 'connected to network. No connecton to internet' but now this thing still won't recognise any of the song details on the discs.... keeps coming up ' check network status', or something similar. So again, I'm asking, what IS the point of having a connection to my router 'cos it least that way you don't have the 'not switching off, blue flashing light' circus!

Again, I apologise if this is old ground. But to me, it's another hassle in a massively long list of hassles with this junk.....

Exactly that Spoysers....

There are enough details on this thread going back eight weeks or so and well into 15 pages.

If they cant gauge an answer out of that then I don't know!

But, if they need more, for some reason,my model is NAS-S55HDE with three wireless receivers, software version 1.01.00, exactly the same problems as most others on here and yes I do get the message up.

At the moment its connected to the wireless receivers through AOSS with no connection to my router, as I said before, I can't be bothered anymore with the hassle. I'm not even going to attempt any 'fixes' and will keep reading this forum in the vague hope that Sony eventually give me back what I originally bought the unit for.

That's it. I quit!

It's now a standalone hi-fi in the front room and three seperate external speakers for my ipod around the house. No dongle = No problems

Once you've resigned yourself to the fact it can't all be connected the hassle dissappears. Not ideal, I know, but so much better for your blood pressure.

Thanks for your reply. But, if I curse down I don't find 'basic settings'. I've had it long enough to know that I've never seen the top two slections above 'network settings'. Exactly as it's shown on page 19 of the manual.

And yes, it does play music after it's been reset...But its now a standalone music player, not connected to anything (wireless receivers or router)

Hi all

Some movement here at last but I don't have 'import from PC' or 'basic settings' on my gigajuke.

The top of my settings list is 'network settings'!

Any ideas?........

As it's been said before Sonys customer support is woeful. The fact he's asking for details when there are eight pages on here and counting says it all!

I genuinely believe we are banging our heads against a brick wall with them and suggest throwing our net wider. I've mailed 'Watchdog' twice, it only takes a few minutes, and I'd urge all of us on here to do the same.

I've had the same problem too for over a week. Seems strange they are all coming to light at the same time......... hmmm. After switching the unit off I get the annoying blue light flashing and the system won't turn back on. I have to power off at the mains and go through the whole 'system resetting' performance. A few days ago I got something along the lines of 'system unstable. Rebooting', which seemed to cure it for a little while. My problem 'appeared' to start after recording from a CD to the HDD, and last night this again appeared to create the same problem.

Considering the price of this unit along with three extra receivers, and having to put up with it's many faults i.e tediously slooooooooooooow, lack of quick search and no 'real' DAB on the wireless receivers, I'm not too far from beginning to regret ever buying this thing!

Hi all

Is it just me or is trying to log into this forum getting slower and slower??

Every other site is instant but with this one I wait...And wait. I suppose I ought to be used to it as the owner of a gigajuke which even when it worked was pitifully slow.

Anyway, after reading O.H.M.S mail I'm not suprised by what he says. I try to avoid ringing them cos the best I can describe it is rude and ignorant. The last one even sneered that the amount of people on this forum with the problem was nothing compared to the amount they had sold! Yea, thanks.

I hope anybody finding this forum for the first time takes the time to read all the thread, I know it might take a little while but you'll get a better idea of what we're up against.

As I've said in a previous post I can remember when Sony was as good as it got....Unfortunately it seems those days are over!

As Pollyblu said, the idea of making my three wireless receivers expensive paperweights doesn't really appeal to me!

Nobody should be asked to pay for a 'repair' as this is purely a Sony related problem.

As I've said in my earlier posts a quick mail to 'Watchdog' might be beneficial, if only to speed the process up and let every other gigajuke owner out there that there is a problem!

P.S Does anybody know how to remove the green 'solved' tick at the start of this thread, cos it obviously isn't and annoys me every time I see it!!

I do find it funny how comments are edited on here so quickly because of bad language. It's just a pity that Sony aren't quite as quick at keeping their customers happy by sorting this balls-up out. (Wait for the edit!!)

What do they expect? For us all to take it on the chin that the vast amount of money we've spent on it has been wasted? Do me a favour, when I'm ever in the market again for electronics I'll avoid Sony like the plague.

Is there anyone out there with a reasonably good knowledge of the law because, as I said earlier, I'm fairly sure the Sale of Goods Act might be of some help here. Failing that, give Watchdog a mail, like I did. The more of us that do may 'prompt' them into something resembling action!

Still, I suppose we should think ourselves lucky these things aren't spontaneously combusting like some of their TV's..........

See, Sony can do it when they have to....

At last it seems like a solution is on the way. Now... if only we'd been told a little earlier when it was obvious something was amiss I for one would have saved hours and hours of resetting, going through manuals and trawling the internet for answers. Thats without the possible damage caused to the unit by constantly switching it on and off at the mains!

I appreciate this still looks like a rant but I am genuinely relieved Sony are, finally, on board with the rest of us!

As above, thanks for the update.

Sounds like, at least now, Sony have agreed there is an issue here, even though it appears to have taken them over a fortnight to do so. There's nothing more frustrating than ringing for help only to be told it isn't a known issue and to take it in for repair when according to the dozen or so who have mailed on here there obviously is. (we're not all that stupid!)

I guess the ball is now squarely in Sonys court so we'll have to see where it goes from here....

Brambles mail shows exactly how we're feeling. I'm sure theres something in the Sale of Goods Act which says that an item should be 'fit for purpose' for a reasonable amount of time and I'm fairly sure this thing falls short on both!

I have mailed 'Watchdog', maybe a few more might help?

Sonys silence is DEAFENING!..... It would be laughable if I hadn't spent over a grand on their products.

I''ve just called their 'helpline' again ( I know, I must be a sucker for punishment!) only to find it closed. Makes sense I guess, their staff only work half the time. A lot like their products if a lot of the threads on this forum are anything to go by.

I came home tonight to the blue flashing light again, my other half had used it during the day and switched it off....Back to square one. I did think that the 'green tick' fixed on this thread was being a bit premature.

Same thing for me when I try to update, asks me to select function then nothing and 'please wait' while trying to get into network settings until I have to either pull the plug or press the power and stop button.

Not quite sure what the options are now. Sony obviously couldn't give a toss and I refuse to pay for a repair. Maybe switch off at the plug after every play???

All these exact same problems and yet Sony insist it's not a problem on their part....And for that reason alone I'll never buy anything from them again.

The day after I rang their 'customer services' (and I am being kind calling it that), I had an issue with my satnav, I rang Garmins helpline and the difference was amazing. So here's a tip for the support team at Sony. If you want to know how it should be done give Garmin a call!

Just keeping my fingers crossed this is an end to this bizarre 'coincidence'. I'll know where to come if anything else goes amiss.

By the way, I still think Sony have said far more about their commitment to their customers by their LACK of communication regarding this problem.... Cheers all.

Yea, there's obviously something going amiss here. I backed my music up last night, took about five and a half hours, closed it down, got up this morning six hours later to be greeted by my blue flashing light friend. I'll ring Sony 'customer services' today although from past experiences I'm not expecting too much. The last time I rang with a query regarding this system I was answered by the most obnoxious - I've ever come across. Basically his reply to me not being very impressed with it was 'well, that's how it is, live with it!' Not exactly the best marketing ploy I've ever encountered but as I said before in my earlier posts just another disappointment in a long line of disappointments since spending my hard earned on it.

If in the unlikely event I get a satisfactory response I'll only be too pleased to pass it on........

By the way Nick, the way you described the problem was how mine started.

Thanks for the tip, I will try this later. However, I did disconnect the wired Lan cable I had in several days ago and this seemed to do the trick...For a few days,so hopefully this'll be a longer term solution.

Have just got off the phone to Sony 'customer services'. Just as I expected the lady was adamant this wasn't a Sony problem cos according to her the number of units sold compared to the number of us on this forum didn't make it a known issue. Even when I commented that everybody experiencing the problem isn't likely to go on this forum the only helpful advice she gave me was to get it repaired! Thanks for that!

I told her it should be known issue and would urge as many to call them on 0844 8466 555 to report it if they're still experiencing problems.

I'll see how the dongle removal does and failing that 'Watchdog' will be getting a call.

I've just bought a usb hard drive to backup all my music cos I gotta feeling this thing is either gonna have me throwing out of the nearest window or having to go for repair...Whichever comes first! I've noticed in the manual that Sony will erase all saved data 'at their discretion', also anything going back onto the unit from an external hard drive will have to be veified through the internet first. Oh yea?!? It's a pity they didn't take as much care of their customers PS3 passwords and account details with such a high and mighty attitude. Call me old fashioned but I think spending over a grand on hi-fi equipment that lasts about four years isn't great value for money.(I bought this to replace a Pioneer system costing around the same price which is still going strong fourteen years later!!) I can remember the days when Sony stood for quality and reliability...Think I'm going to cut my losses and look for another hard drive system that doesn't promise what it can't deliver.

By the way, if you've typed in Sony gigajuke in a search engine with a view to buying one and ended up on this site reading the comments, do yourself a favour, and DON'T!
