Hi,

this is one of the new models which i'll take a bet not many have got calibration settings for yet, you could start by turning down the backlight to around 3 or 4 then adjust other picture settings to your taste, a good rule with these sets is not to use the "vivid" setting as for most its too " in your face", i was surprised however that the dealer that provided you with the set did not set it up for you.

Hi,

in my view parts should be available for the duration of any warranty period and if this is not the case i would expect a replacement, but in these cases would accept an equivalent model tv and blu ray player, especially as its a manufacturing fault or equipment failure.

hopefully someone from Sony will pick up this thread and assist you guys with this unique problem.

in a word, no. Its because the hard drive is "registered" to the tv so any material you record to it can only be played back by said tv, you will not be able to transfer anything recorded to your hard drive to dvd unfortunately.

Hi,

check with your dealer to see about how you can go about purchasing an extended guarantee, i personally would get one, just because a sony product is expensive it does not make it any more reliable, it is always a good idea with any consumer electronic goods to buy warranties because at the end of the day if it does develope a fault and you dont have the warranty its going to be a very expensive repair, just having the warranty gives you peace of mind you have it just in case.

sounds like a faulty connection with the HDMI cable, have either of you tried another cable to eliminate this?, i cant say much about this as i use Digital Coaxial cable from my 790 to my Amp with HDMI fromthe 790 to my Bravia and it works brilliantly

and thats after you've tidied it up! lol, it is definately difficult to lose all the wires and mines not in a corner!, having said that if that was me i would make a shallow triangular box with a lid and place it behind the stand and chuck all the surplus cable and plugs into that, just carve a few notches just under the lid for the cable for their relative bit of kit.

Hi,

personally i would do this properly with the right speakers for the job, my personal choice have been Missions, you cant cannabalize two dedicated home cinema kits to make up what you want, the two things that spring to mind here without checking is that both sets of rears which are wireless wont work and nor will the Subs as they are probably Passive and not Active ones, i know Sony amps use Active subs (well my DB830 does!)

if your spending on a good Amp then its logical to do the same for the speakers!

so glad i dont have to do this anymore!, you must follow the instructions to a T on the Sony downloads page, once downloaded check that the file size is exactly the same as the one on the site, and when burning the disc make sure you finalise it then it should work fine, i admit i remember having given this a few goes till i got it right.

Hi,

you cannot play any subtitle files to your movies unless you use a media server such as Homestream or Serviio, and even then you must make sure your subtitle files are exactly the same name as the movie file with the .srt extension.

What utter rubbish!, clearly this is a marketing gimmick, they cant even get their picture image right let alone their designs, the only reason i can see why they put a curve in it is because its so thin it wouldent stop flexing when its stood up!, hence the curve to strengthen it! besides at that price point i cant see it taking off, and it dont matter where the speakers are if you cant see the image very well why even bother listening to it.

i only hope Sony dont do anything stupid along these lines just to put a claim to be "first" like make a wavy set!

yes i believe so, you will need to connect the optical digital cord (supplied) from the tv to the soundbar then on your remote press Options, scroll to speakers and set to audio system and thats it.

once you've formatted the drive to FAT 32 you can, you need to register the drive with the tv obviously it will render it useless on anything else other than the tv once done.

i've been using serviio 1.2 for a while and have found that subtitles are tempermental at best, sometimes it will work flawlessly and other occasions i found it wont, it will either load them or it wont, worth noting that on occasion it will come up that the playable file is corrupt or unsupported, but if you restart the pc or laptop and try again it works !, still its a lot of faffing about if you ask me.

hard to determine at this point which is at fault.

i have no idea why this is the case but it usually works when you re set the router, i.e, turn it off from the wall and turn it back on, also known to take several goes at connecting, however since having the new BDP-S790 it connected first go!, my previous player was a 570 that took several attempts, swings and roundabouts i suppose.

very strange your having so many issues with your tv, to be fair even images out of the box is top notch, however you say that even after calibrating the settings as per other groups, and bear in mind that these are a guide only as no two tv's or the rooms they are in are the same.

you could try turning off ALL motion processing and most certainly refrain from using the vivid setting and give it another go.

its not the player at fault but more a file limitation with media player, i would do as Quinnicus suggested as Homestream (or Serviio) is far better, i use Serviio myself with my tv and my 790

definately a foriegn body of some sort and should not be there, you should contact your dealer first and voice your concerns with him and ask him to get you a replacement if it detracts you from your viewing pleasure, since its only a month old your dealer should have no problem replacing it for you.
